Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Get It Back

To get a suspended Google Business Profile back, fix whatever broke Google's guidelines, then send one appeal through Google's appeals tool with documents that show your business name and address. Google lets you appeal each decision only once, so get the fix and the evidence right before you press submit.

This guide is for owners who just saw the words "Google Business Profile suspended" and want the shortest safe way back. Every rule below comes from Google's own help pages, checked on 12 October 2026. Where Google's pages say nothing, we say so instead of guessing.

The short answer

  1. Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google says not to.
  2. Open the appeals tool and read the reason Google gives.
  3. Fix the cause, on the profile or in the real world.
  4. Gather documents whose name and address match your profile.
  5. Submit one appeal, then wait for Google's email.

What does it mean when your Google Business Profile is suspended?

It means Google has decided your profile breaks its guidelines and has taken it down until you appeal. Google's help page says it "may suspend or disable Business Profiles that don't follow our guidelines".

When Google removes a profile, its help page says two things happen:

  • The public can't go to the profile.
  • The owner and managers can't act on the profile.

So customers searching for you will not find your listing, and you cannot manage it the normal way. The owner and managers can ask Google to reinstate it. If Google agrees, it brings back both the profile and the people who manage it.

A suspension is not the same as a rejected edit. If Google only turned down a change, like a new name or a photo, your profile is still live. Google handles those through a different appeal route, covered further down.

Is your profile suspended, or is your Google account restricted?

Check this first, because the fix starts in a different place. A profile suspension hits one profile. An account restriction hits your whole Google account, and every profile it manages is suspended with it.

What happenedWhat it affectsWhat fixes it
Profile suspended or disabledThat one profile is hidden and lockedOne appeal in the Google Business Profile appeals tool
Account restrictedEvery profile you manage is suspended, and you can't create or claim other profilesAppeal the account on your My accounts page, then appeal each profile
Owner's Google account removedAll locations that owner owns are removedGetting the owner's account reinstated brings the locations back
Manager's Google account removedThat manager loses access. The locations are not affectedGetting the manager's account reinstated restores their access

If your account is restricted, deal with that first. Google's order is clear. Appeal the account restriction on your My accounts page, where you can also track it. Once the restriction is lifted, appeal each suspended profile.

Find out whether it is the profile or the account before you do anything else. Appealing the wrong one wastes your only shot.

Why do Google Business Profiles get suspended?

Profiles get suspended for breaking Google's guidelines, and the appeals tool tells you which rule Google thinks you broke. Google's guidelines say that to make sure a profile won't be suspended, you must reflect your business accurately, avoid prohibited content and follow the product rules.

These are the rules on Google's guidelines page that matter most for a small local business:

The ruleWhat breaks it
Use your real business nameAdding extra words to the name, like a tagline, the service you sell, the town, your hours, a phone number or a web address. Google says this "could result in the suspension" of your profile
Use a real addressA virtual office, a P.O. box or remote mailbox, or a co-working desk without signage and staff during business hours
Hide your address if you travel to customersA service-area business showing a home address. Google's own example is a plumber who runs the business from home
One profile per locationTwo profiles for the same place, in one account or across several
A phone number you controlNumbers that send callers to anyone other than your business, or premium-rate numbers
Categories describe the businessUsing categories as keywords
You must be eligibleLead generation agents for corporations, or a rented mailing address you do not work from

The name rule is the easiest one to break by accident. "Smith Plumbing" is a name. "Smith Plumbing Emergency 24/7 Denver" is a name plus a service, hours and a city, and the guidelines say not to add those. Google wants the name "as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers."

The address rules matter most for trades that run from home. Your profile is one of the lead sources you own, which is why it sits near the top of our guide on how to get more plumbing leads. Losing it hurts.

What should you do first when your profile is suspended?

Do not make a new profile, and do not rush the appeal. Google's help pages say "Do not create a new Business Profile for the same business." A second profile also breaks the one-profile rule, so it hands Google another reason to say no.

Then work through this order:

  1. Check whether it is the profile or your whole account (the table above).
  2. Open the appeals tool and select the decision. Google says it shows the date, the reason, a link to the policy you broke and whether you can appeal.
  3. Read that policy. Compare it with your profile and your real-world setup, line by line.
  4. Fix the cause. Some fixes happen off Google: a sign on the door, a phone number you own, a real address instead of a virtual office.
  5. Gather your evidence (next sections).

Google's help page asks you to make sure your profile follows all the guidelines before you appeal. If you cannot change the profile while it is down, say what you fixed in the appeal's text box.

You get one appeal per decision. Spend a day getting the fix and the documents right rather than an hour getting it wrong.

How do you appeal a suspended Google Business Profile?

You appeal through the Google Business Profile appeals tool, once, with optional evidence and a short note. These are Google's steps, in order:

  1. Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool.
  2. If you're signed in to the Google account linked to the profile, select Confirm. If not, select Switch account.
  3. Select the profile you want to appeal, then Continue.
  4. Select the decision you want to appeal, then Continue.
  5. Upload your evidence with Choose file. You can attach more than one file.
  6. Use the text box to explain why the profile should be reinstated.
  7. Tick the box that says you are ready to submit and that all evidence is attached, then select Submit appeal.

Google then reviews it and emails you the decision.

Keep the note short and factual. Say what the reason was, what you changed and which documents prove it. A note that shows you now follow the rule does more than one that argues with it.

If you manage more than 10 suspended profiles, the tool asks if you want bulk reinstatement. Google then wants a spreadsheet with each Business Profile ID, plus your documents.

What evidence does Google accept for a suspended profile?

Google lists official business registration, a business licence, tax certificates and utility bills for the business. The rule that matters most is simple: the business name and address on every document should match your profile.

DocumentWhat it showsCheck before you upload
Official business registrationThe business exists under this nameThe name matches your profile
Business licenceYou are allowed to tradeThe name and address match
Tax certificateThe business is registered for taxThe name and address match
Utility bill for the business: electricity, phone, water or internetYou operate at this addressThe business name is on the bill, not just your own name

Google's appeals page lists cable bills as well. For bulk appeals, it says the name and address on each document must "exactly match your registration".

Evidence is optional in the tool. Google says it "can help strengthen your appeal", and we would not appeal without it. If your documents do not match your profile, work out which one is wrong before you send anything. Sometimes it is the profile. Sometimes it is an old bill.

How long does a Google Business Profile appeal take?

Google's appeals help page says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days. You get the decision by email, and you can check the status in the appeals tool while you wait.

The status shows as one of five things: Submitted, Approved, Not Approved, Can't be appealed, or Eligible for appeal.

Do not send a second appeal while you wait. Google says not to submit multiple appeals for the same issue before you get a decision. Source: Appeal Business Profile content and profile restrictions, checked 12 October 2026.

Five business days is Google's own upper limit for a review. It is not a promise that your profile comes back.

What if Google denies your appeal?

If your appeal is denied, you can ask Google for an additional review and send evidence you did not include the first time. Google's help page calls this "an additional review to a denied request", and says it is only for requests that were denied.

Use it well. Send what was missing before: a document with the exact name and address, a photo of your signage, proof that the phone number is yours. Sending the same files again is unlikely to change the answer.

If your business is in the European Economic Area, Google says you may have extra options. One is referring your appeal to an out-of-court dispute settlement body under the EU Digital Services Act.

What happens when your profile is reinstated?

When Google reinstates a profile, its help page says it brings back both the profile and its owner and managers. The page does not say what happens to your reviews, photos or where you show up in search, so we will not guess.

If something looks wrong after you are back, Google's page says to contact Google Business Profile Help. Any other appeals have to wait until now: Google says a suspended profile must be reinstated before you can appeal content decisions, like a rejected edit or a restricted photo.

Once you are live again, look after your reviews. Our guide on how to remove bad Google reviews covers which ones Google takes down and how to report the ones that break its rules.

Can you pay someone to get a suspended profile back?

You can pay someone to help, but only Google can reinstate a profile. A good helper finds the broken rule, fixes the real-world cause and gets your documents in order. You can do all of that yourself with this guide.

Be wary of anyone who promises a reinstatement or a date. Google's own page gives no guarantee, only "up to 5 business days" for a review.

This is also where we are the wrong choice. If all you need is one suspension fixed, a monthly marketing subscription is too much. Follow the steps above. It costs nothing. We fit better when you want the profile, the reviews, the website and the follow-up all run for you, every month.

How do you stop your profile getting suspended again?

Keep your profile matching the real world, and keep it plain. This short checklist comes from Google's guidelines:

  • The name is exactly what is on your sign, website and invoices. No extra words.
  • The address is a real place you work from, with signage. If you travel to customers, hide it.
  • Your service area stays within about 2 hours' drive of your base, which is the guide Google gives.
  • One profile per location. No duplicates.
  • The phone number is yours and rings your business.
  • You use the fewest categories that describe your core business.
  • You check the profile after anyone else edits it, staff and agencies included.

A healthy profile also matters beyond Maps. It is one of the basics we list for showing up in Google's AI answers, in our guide on how to get recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews.

The safest profile is a boring one. Real name, real address, real phone number, nothing added to look bigger.

FAQ

Why was my Google Business Profile suspended without warning?

Google can suspend a profile when it finds a breach of its guidelines, and its help pages do not promise a warning first. Open the appeals tool to see the reason, the date of the decision and a link to the policy. That tells you exactly what to fix before you send your one appeal.

Can I create a new Google Business Profile if mine is suspended?

No. Google's help pages say "Do not create a new Business Profile for the same business." Its guidelines also allow only one profile per location, so a second one breaks another rule. Appeal the suspended profile instead, and fix whatever caused the suspension before you do.

How many times can I appeal a suspension?

Once per decision. Google says appeals can only be submitted once, and not to send more than one for the same issue while you wait. If the appeal is denied, you can ask for an additional review and add evidence you left out the first time.

Can I edit my profile while it is suspended?

Google's help page says that when it removes a profile, the owner and managers can't act on it. So plan to fix the cause in the real world, then explain the fix in the appeal's text box. Appeals about edits or photos have to wait until the profile is reinstated.

Do I need documents to appeal?

No, evidence is optional in the appeals tool. But Google says it can help strengthen your appeal, and you only get one. Send business registration, a licence, a tax certificate or a utility bill for the business, with the name and address matching your profile.

Will I lose my Google reviews if my profile is suspended?

Google's help pages do not say. They say the public can't go to a suspended profile, and that reinstatement brings back the profile and its owner and managers. They say nothing either way about reviews, so be wary of anyone who claims to know for sure.

How long does it take to get a suspended profile back?

Google's appeals page says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to 5 business days, and the decision comes by email. That is the review time, not a promise of reinstatement. If your account is restricted too, add the time it takes to lift that first.

Do you want someone to keep your profile in good shape?

Most of this work is one-off: fix the cause, send the appeal, wait. Keeping the profile right afterwards is the ongoing part. Google Business Profile work is part of our SEO and answer engine optimization service, alongside your website and reviews. If you would rather hand all of that over, see how Havstock Unlimited works.

If you are doing it yourself, start with the appeals tool and the reason Google gives. Having your Google Business Profile suspended once is enough. Keep the name, address and phone number matching the real world, and it has far less reason to happen again.
